Data to Action

Data to Action (DtA) interprets research findings to drive community engagement and impactful activities, with a strong focus on improving maternal and child health in Ethiopia. DtA transforms data into meaningful interventions, capacity-building initiatives, and exploring further to enhance maternal and child health outcomes. DtA activities span from  Family Level ,  Community Level ,  Health facility level ,  National Level and to the international community, ensuring comprehensive and effective interventions in maternal and child health.

At the family level, HHR’s interventions include several key activities aimed at improving health outcomes for children and mothers. Complex study findings on under-five child mortality are translated into actionable insights and effectively communicate these results to families. HHR provides transportation and cover medical expenses to ensure children and mothers receive essential care. High-risk expectant mothers are connected to specialists for regular antenatal care (ANC), enhancing the chances of safe pregnancies and deliveries. Additionally, HHR promotes nutritious diets through nutrition-sensitive agriculture by supplying improved vegetable seeds and poultry.

At the community level, HHR’s interventions include organizing awareness programs that involve community dialogues and health education sessions on the leading causes of under-five mortality. Support group sessions are being facilitated for grieving mothers to promote emotional recovery and improve awareness for better maternal and child health. Additionally, HHR influences healthier behaviour changes providing health education by broadcasting maternal and child health education programs via radio and distributing printed materials, such as brochures, posters, and billboards, to create widespread awareness.

At the health facility level, HHR’s interventions focus on several key areas. HHR shares study findings with health facilities to guide evidence-based decision-making. Also, engages in capacity building by training health professionals at catchment health centres and providing pre-service training for graduate students of partner medical colleges to enhance their knowledge and skills in new-born care and maternal health. Additionally, HHR emphasizes on infection prevention and control (IPC) by training healthcare professionals on IPC protocols, donating waste management materials to promote safe practices, and conducting deep cleaning campaigns in high-traffic areas of health facilities to minimize infection risks.

Data Sharing: Providing raw and aggregated data to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) to inform policies and strategies.
