Laboratory
HHR’s ISO15189 accredited laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet international standards, featuring sections for bacteriology, molecular microbiology, serology, and pathology. Equipped with advanced automated and non-automated devices, it ensures efficient biorepository systems and reliable 24-hour water and electricity supplies, supported by a central UPS and robust power generating plant. The laboratory contributes to health research aimed at improving child and maternal health across Ethiopia, offering scientific, technical, and managerial support for projects including population-based surveillance and clinical trials. Operating 24/7, it conducts microbiological investigations for disease prevention, outbreak response, and public health decision-making using conventional, molecular, and pathological methods. The laboratory fosters collaborations and adheres to local and national regulations to advance public health.
The team includes a Laboratory Director, Pathology Lead, Post-doctoral Research Scientist, Research and Diagnostic Manager, Laboratory Systems Manager, Senior Biomedical Engineer, two Senior Medical Laboratory Technologists, twelve Medical Laboratory Technologists, a Data Officer, and an Administrative Officer.

- HHR’s activities are coordinated and directed in accordance with the HHR laboratory-defined Quality Management System.
- staffs at HHR are trained (re-trained when necessary) and supervised to continuously meet the needs of our users.
- HHR’s staff understand and implement documented procedures.
- All visitors to the laboratories are treated with respect, and due consideration is given to their safety while within the premises of the laboratory.
