Lead Institution: Haramaya University, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Ethiopian Public Health
Implementation Year: 2020-2023
Status of the project: In Progress
Funder: CHAMPS
Project Summary
Determine the etiology, drug susceptibility pattern, treatment outcome and associated factors of IBD in children below five years of age admitted to HFCSH.
This research is one arm of a wider program called Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS-Ethiopia) that has established Clinical surveillance. This surveillance determines the causes of stillbirths as well as morbidity and mortality in under five children in Hiwot Fana Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (HFCSH). Therefore, the resulting comprehensive data on socio-demography, clinical and laboratory, can support provision of data on serious bacterial infection that facilitates improved prevention, etiology-based diagnosis, and management of the cases. Furthermore, the study could help to prepare local guidelines for empirical treatment that can in turn improve survival of children.
