Project Summary
This project seeks to contribute to improving maternal and child health by offering young people opportunities to learn strategies to avoid violence.
This project explored how people experience and narrate gender based violence to build an understanding of how it affects health. The project was working with a local NGO in Harar, eastern Ethiopia, to conduct research primarily among women who have experienced gender-based violence. Semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions data collection techniques were used. Three theatre performances and a photo voice project leading to an exhibition session have been undergone. The research findings and the learning points from the arts activities led to the production of educational materials in collaboration with the NGO and the local community.
