Community Week

Serving Where It Matters Most

Hararghe Health Research marks 10 years with a community health outreach in Kersa, East Hararghe

Hararghe Health Research (HHR) has begun a month-long celebration of its 10th anniversary in Kersa, East Hararghe, the place where its journey began.

More than 500 community members have received care and guidance from specialists at Haramaya University Hiwot Fana Comprehensive Specialized Hospital and the HHR team. Laboratory, ultrasound, pharmacy, and triage services have been brought directly to the community, making essential healthcare accessible right where it is needed. Pediatricians, gynecologists, dermatologists, general practitioners, and other health and social scientists are giving back to the community HHR has served for a decade.

Mrs. Yanenash Tilahun, Operations Manager at HHR, noted that over its decade-long journey, HHR has carried out several studies aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes and informing decision-making in Ethiopia. She added that beyond conducting research, HHR has a strong foundation of community engagement. It involves communities in research activities, promotes healthier behaviors, and continuously works to strengthen local health facilities based on the gaps its studies identify.

Community members expressed their happiness at receiving free checkups and treatment close to home.

The outreach in Kersa is only the beginning. More milestones will be shared throughout the month. Follow HHR’s website and social media channels to celebrate with us
